I wasn’t sure what inspired us to head down south to Ranong in the middle of the rainy season. Was it the spring water, the waterfalls, the cool car or the traveling companions? Never mind that. One thing was for sure. By the time, we were negotiating the curves of Highway No. 4006, our Toyota Avanza seven-seater MPV had proven itself to be a very capable vehicle on stretch after stretch of slippery roads. The wipers battled the rain competently while the engine gave the kind of output that easily tamed the steep sections we came across occasionally. No complaints there at all.
Tired of being told where to go and what to do? It’s time to break all the rules and go out on a car camp trip! We’ve just returned from a very satisfying trip to Pa Sawan, a less well known waterfall, hidden away in one of the most tranquil surroundings in Srinakarindra Dam National Park, Kanchanaburi. But in order to get there you need to be a bit of an offroader yourself because the access route is rather unforgiving.
K ampangpetch Historiacal Park is a relatively unknown attraction despite its official status as a world granted by UNESCO in 1991. I, for one, didn’t have the slightest idea of its existence until I came across a listing on the internet when I was searching for information on Thai history. The park if divided into inner and outer zones by a wall. Wat Prakaew or Temple of the Emerald Buddha is the prime attraction in the inner zone. It is the largest royal temple situated in the central area of the city like Wat Mahatad in Sukhotai and Wat Prasrisanpetch in Ayudhaya.
S imilan is more or less an annual thing for Thai divers. As I thumbed through my early log books, I couldn’t help chuckling to myself because it read like either a novel or a dissertation. I was helplessly fascinated by even the most common fish and creatures, not to mention large schools of manta rays measuring four to five meters and whale sharks on their seasonal visit to Similan every year. Diving is a dynamic experience. What you get to see in two dives an hour apart at the same location ca be totally different.
